Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how EscapeFinder handles personal information when you use this website, contact us, submit a review or ask to claim a business listing. It is written specifically for EscapeFinder's services rather than copied from a generic directory policy.
Who we are
EscapeFinder is a UK escape-room discovery and directory service. Before public launch, the operator's formal business name, postal address and privacy contact details should be inserted here. Privacy enquiries can also be submitted through our contact page.
Information we collect
We may collect information you choose to provide, including your name, email address, review content, contact enquiries and information supplied when claiming or managing a listing. Reviews may display the reviewer's chosen name publicly, but email addresses are not intended for public display.
We also collect limited technical and usage information needed to operate and understand the service, such as pages viewed, searches and filters used, listing impressions and clicks to operator websites, booking pages or directions. EscapeFinder's first-party analytics uses a pseudonymous session identifier to help reduce repeated counting. We do not need to identify an individual visitor in order to produce aggregate directory and operator performance statistics.
How we use information
We use information to operate and improve EscapeFinder; answer enquiries; moderate reviews; verify listing claims; maintain accurate directory information; understand how the service is used; prevent misuse; and provide aggregate performance information about listings. If we later introduce marketing email, operator accounts, subscriptions or additional analytics services, this policy should be updated before those features are enabled.
Lawful bases
Depending on the activity, processing may be necessary to provide a service you have requested, to comply with legal obligations, or for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, measuring and improving EscapeFinder. Where UK data-protection law requires consent for a particular technology or communication, we will seek it before relying on that processing.
Business listing information
EscapeFinder publishes information about escape-room operators, venues and games gathered from public business sources and information supplied by operators. Business information is not necessarily personal information, although contact details relating to identifiable individuals may be. Please contact us if personal information within a listing requires correction or removal.
Sharing and processors
We do not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers that help us host, secure and operate EscapeFinder. We may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. This section should be updated before launch with material production providers where appropriate.
International transfers
Some future hosting, email, analytics or infrastructure providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will use an appropriate transfer mechanism.
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including moderation, security, dispute-resolution and legal requirements. Retention periods may differ between contact enquiries, reviews, claim records and technical records.
Your rights
UK data-protection law may give you rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, depending on the circumstances. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). To exercise a right or ask a privacy question, use our contact page and select “Privacy or data protection enquiry”.
Cookies and local/session storage
EscapeFinder may use essential cookies or similar storage for functions such as session handling and security. Any non-essential cookies or technologies that require consent should not be enabled in production until the appropriate consent mechanism and disclosure are in place.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as EscapeFinder develops. The date above will be changed when material revisions are published.
